Grape mealy bug : (Maconellicoceus hirsutus Green)

Symptoms

    •    The bugs are mainly seen during flowering to fruiting season. During heavy infestation leaf will show curling.

•    Nymphs and adults suck sap from growing shoots and berries aids in the development of sooty mould. Infested bunches become shriveled, showing sooty mould.

  

control measures

    Removal of loose bark and application of a mixture of 6g Carbaryl 50 WP and 2ml neem oil with 1 ml sticker/liter of water on the trunk can control it.

          If leaf curl is noticed, spray Dichlorovos (0.05%) followed by Phenthoate (0.05%).Washing the vines with buprofezin 25 EC @ 1.25 ml/ L or methomyl 40 SP @ 1.0 g/L water is effective method to control mealy bugs. Release of Cryptolaemus grubs (10 grubs/vine) at fruit set can also control the pest.
